This week was the first rendition of the Rooted Supper Club, held in collaboration with FerrignoFIT – and it was a huge success (as supper clubs are measured). I know it may seem unnecessary, but this supper club actually has a goal associated with it (I am very much a results driven person, so even the most trivial seeming things I do have goals…usually). This one is simple: gather interesting, healthy people around the dinner table. Check.
As for the menu, we had Spring Vegetable and Smoked White Fish Flatbread, Filipino Fusion Tacos (an evolution of my chicken adobo recipe), an Arugula Salad with Toasted Sesame Seeds and Strawberries, and for desert, an incredibly good chocolate souffle provided by my buddy Barry, aka DJ Souffle (as he was dubbed by the night’s end). When he asked me over text what I wanted him to bring, and informed me he made a mean souffle, I was 50/50 as to whether or not he was joking. He was not, and knowing Barry, I was not surprised.
I wanted to write a blog post about the supper club, spinning it into a whole big tale of feasting of medieval proportitons, but there is not much to say other than there was good food, some awesomely timed one-liners, and maybe slightly too much wine for a school night.
Starting next month, we’ll have seats at the table for any Rooted Facebook fans that would like to attend. Really, it doesn’t matter if we don’t know you at all – if you’re in the LA area, are a cool person that likes to eat, and would like to join…do so. I’ve always been fascinated with the idea of getting people together in one of the most basic communal senses – by the sharing of food. That is LIVING ROOTED. Hopefully we’ll see some new faces next time.
